The Problem with Men Today

Too many men today lead lives of quiet desperation. They drink too much beer, smoke too much pot, watch too much TV, play too many video games, jerk off to too much porn, and never really take on real challenges that test themselves as men.

Men today are too lonely, work jobs they hate, are trapped in relationships that don’t meet their needs, rarely if ever experience real fulfillment, and lack any real direction. Most men today are just slowly marching towards their grave, condemned to die filled with regret and unrealized potential.

Why is this experience so damn common?

Our modern world deserves a significant chunk of the blame. We’re told if we just do what we’re told, we’ll earn a few kibbles of manufactured “entertainment” to pacify us into believing we’re living the high life. But in reality, modern society’s prescription for men leads too many of us feeling lost, disconnected, and lacking purpose. We’re expendable, replaceable cogs in a giant, impersonal machine that doesn’t give a fuck about us.

Jack Donovan, a writer who has been a tremendous inspiration to this group, once quipped "Today, many people would consider it cruel to place an animal in an enclosure that is drastically different from its natural habit."

Yet, as men, that's exactly where we find ourselves today. Modern society just decorates our cages.

It’s never a surprise to see wealthy, seemingly successful men eat the muzzle of a pistol. All the material possessions and creature comforts modern society can provide does a piss-poor job of satisfying those primal, innate urges etched in our DNA. The more we deny our manhood, the more we struggle.

Modern society conspires to keep men alone and isolated, where his hard work and loyalty can be exploited by giant, faceless corporations. Without being surrounded by other men he trusts and respects, a lone man can be told he’s a great man by buying the right car, living in the right neighborhood, and wearing the right clothes. He can be sold a brand, then delude himself into believing the happiness and fulfillment he sees in his brand’s advertising is the life he lives.

Modern society goes even farther in destroying the essence of masculinity by destroying any and all institutions that allow men to act like men. We have no fraternal clubs, male-only social clubs, or male-only schools. We have no barber shops, boxing clubs, or workplaces. Even male-only bathrooms and locker rooms are facing extinction. Quite simply, men today have no opportunity to enjoy the company of men. Society doesn’t trust men gathering with other men; it’s seen as scary and dangerous. Which, of course, is idiotic.
